Faint Blue

Today was the first Friday of the month, and it was my turn to bring in something for the staff morning tea. Yesterday I floated the idea of fruit around. The idea didn't float too well. In fact it crashed like a lead zeppelin. But I persevered. I remember the last couple of times there being so many dips and biscuits and cakes and things that it was too much by the end. So I bought some fruit.

I dropped in at the fruit shop on the way to work and purchased some goods. I had a watermelon, a honeydew, a pineapple, some yoghurt, some passionfruit and some fuji fruit (persimmons). I felt good. Buying fruit makes me feel good.

So I went down to work and cut up my melons and pineapple. That covered the tray, so I decided that I had put enough food on the table. The other staff members brought in some nice things. Biscuits and dips, cabana, cheese, cake. Good stuff. And I had my fruit. And do you know what? All those people who were poo-pooing my idea yesterday had some fruit. And do you know what? They liked it. They even apologised. So Ha! Robb wins!

The rest of my day was okay. I had a nice surprise visit from someone. Ashleigh the old director stopped by. I haven't seen her for a few months and it was nice to talk to her again. She was married a few months ago and she says that things are great. Not a whole lot different from before. Just a different last name now.

This afternoon there was a bit of a problem with the after school care. There wasn't a whole lot of children this afternoon, but there was still a bit of a blue. Some of the older girls were giving one of the grade one boys a hard time. They wouldn't let up, so he painted them a bit. They didn't like this very much. Especially when I came down hard on them. Oh well. It's not as if I enjoy making 11 year old girls cry, but if that's what you've gotta do, that's what you've gotta do.

So now it's the weekend and I'm being eaten by mosquitos. I'm not sure what I'm going to get up to yet. Tomorrow I have a play to attend. I'm off to see Hamlet at QPAC, so that should be ace. Sunday is the Seafood Festival, and I'm not sure how that will be. I'm concerned that it will be overly busy. Monday I'm going to try and get to the coast. I think that it's going to be too cold soon, and I really want to go for a swim in the surf. It's been ages.
