It's Great When We're Together
In the end I changed my mind about the Big Day Out quite a few times. I had the discussion with Ria, then I ummmed and aaaahed. I made up my mind, then I changed it again. Then I thought about it some more, and changed my mind again. There was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing. Pros and cons.
It was a fantastic line-up. I could afford it. I did have a big week of work. I am going to Japan next week. There's always next year. There were a lot of bands that I wanted to see. It's always a fun day. It's always a long day. I like drinking beer there. We all know where beer leads me. The weather was perfect. The weather was hot.
I didn't end up going. I did change my mind a lot though. I even rang up Rocking Horse Records on Saturday afternoon at 5 o'clock to see if they had any of their last minute tickets left. They didn't. That sealed it. I wasn't going to drive down there to pick up a scalped ticket. I had a lovely day with Ria instead.
Except it didn't start that great though. Well, that's a lie. It did start well, but what happened next wasn't so good. Ria's house was broken into on Saturday night. Some creep had forced open a window and made off with a laptop and John's wallet. There were 3 of us there, no-one heard anything. They did leave a great big dirty handprint on the window though. It sucks though. I think that it unsettled me throughout the day.
The lovely day that Ria and I had together consisted of going down to the coast and getting some Big Chief's. It was good. Then we drove up to Currumbin and went for a swim at the calm beach. There was a kite-surfing competition happening that was cool. Some of the tricks they were doing were huge! Getting about 4 metres of vertical air, and about 30 metres long. All sorts of spins and tricks. One dude even got inverted! It was pretty awesome.
After that we headed back to Burleigh and read in a park for a while. I'm reading a book by Andrew McGahan called Last Drinks. It's about the Fitzgerald Inquiry. It's pretty interesting so far. It was a bit weird how that stuff was on the front page of today's paper though. Brisbane sounds like a very different town in the early 80's.
Today has been a huge day at work. I think that the entire week is going to be crazy. Getting things ready for the start of the new rooms. Lots of interviews for employees. Lots of paperwork for new parents. Plus there's some stuff happening in the evenings. I'm glad that I didn't go to the Big Day Out yesterday because everything today would have been a lot harder. I have heard that Kasabian played an unbelievably good show though, and I'm tempted to get into the Arena on Wednesday night to see them. I quite like a lot of their stuff, and if they are good live......Well.....
We'll see how we go. I've got to drive Dirty Dave into town so he can go the Lilly Allen concert tonight. Lucky devil.
