Pocket Spider

Man, it's pretty cold tonight. Very uncomfortable. I had to go to Trang and eat an Extra Large Special Beef Noodle Soup with Extra Vegetables to help me warm back up. Now my digestive system is working on overdrive and those chemical reactions are keeping me warm. I like it.

I woke up this morning fairly excited about it being Friday. Louise was away from work, and I thought that it was going to be a pretty cruisy Friday. The end of the week usually means that everybody has done all of the jobs that they want to do, and with the cooler weather everyone was pretty chilled out. (Ha!) So I had a bit of a sleep in with Ria then got ready for work. I thought I'd wear a long sleeve shirt today, one that probably should have been ironed. I didn't iron it though, I just wore a jumper over the top. I had a look in the mirror and thought that I probably should have a shave, but didn't worry about it. I barely managed to put on deoderant before I walked out the door.

This was okay for the first part of the day. Not a problem at all. No-one was coming to visit me, and everyone at the centre is used to my carefully thought out slightly disheveled look. Unfortunately I took a phone call just before lunch that caused me some concern.

The call was from the real estate agent who is going to sell the centre. He was ringing me because Dad is away, and apparently I've been given power of attorney. He wanted to know if he would be able to offer the centre to a consortium that is acquiring some centres around the traps. He said the price that he would be was going to offer it to them. He wanted my permission.

This was a bit of surprise to me. I wasn't really expecting to be dealing with these sort of heavy issues while Dad was away, and Dad hadn't really spoken to me about it. I listened to what he had to say, and thought about it for a moment then agreed. I mean, it's not like I was going to be a done deal today.

This made me a little bit nervous, but I put it back of my mind for the next hour.

Then the phone rang again. It was the real estate agent, and he wanted to let me know that the party he was talking to were very interested in the offer, and wanted to come down and have a look around the centre that afternoon. Again I agreed, as there's never a good time for these guys in suits to come down to the centre, and I wanted to get it over and done with. The agent then said that he'd fax through something to me, appointing him as the exclusive agent. I said, "Uh, okay."

He faxed it through, and I started freaking out a little bit more. This was a reasonably serious piece of paperwork, and I bugged out and headed over to my Dad's office to confer with Michael.

I spoke to Michael and he went through the paperwork with me, and we rang the agent again and made some adjustments to the agreement. I signed it up and faxed it back. The agent, whose name is Lincoln Bridge funnily enough, was helpful, but I kind of feel like I could be a bit out of my depth here. The guys who were to be coming through the centre were big fish, and I'm only in a little pond. They were going to eat me up!

Anyways, I ended up stressing out for nothing really. Nothing is happening this weekend.

Apparently Dad has said to Michael that he wouldn't be surprised if the centre was sold while he was away. It would have been nice if he could have told me about it. The real bummer in it for me is that if I sell the centre, then I sell myself out of a job.

This weekend I'm going to the beach. It should be nice. I hope that it's not too cold for a swim! It'll be invigorating!
